Hi all, The Archaeology Society has arranged for Professor - TopicsExpress

Hi all, The Archaeology Society has arranged for Professor Chris Dyer to come and give a lecture on his research entitled Who Made the English Medieval Landscape on Tuesday 2nd December at 6pm in EE1026. Chris Dyer has held posts at the Universities of Edinburgh, Birmingham and Leicester. He has researched the history, archaeology and landscape of country and town in the middle ages, especially in the period 1200-1540. He is the author of seven books and many papers. The talk will be based on the following: It has often been thought that the important changes in the landscape – planning towns, forming villages and hamlets, laying out fields and farms, depopulating villages - was the result of decisions by the rich and powerful. The lords were very influential, but this talk shows (using examples mainly from the West Midlands) that peasants, artisans and local communities also had a role to play in creating landscapes. We hope to see as many of you there as possible. Thanks Cat
