Hi all, We are changing the qualifier format and reducing the price. Hoorah! Weve had an incredible demand for places at the qualifiers this year. Far above the 36 teams maximum that we can accommodate in the current format. Over the last few days JV and I have been discussing how best we can accommodate more than 36 teams, whilst still giving drivers as much race time as possible. We are therefore going to change the format of the qualifiers to fit you all in. The qualifier format will now be very similar to the Rookie format, except there will be more racing! The qualifier format will now be this: 5 x 20 minute practice / qualifying sessions 10 x 25 minute races Each team will only do 4 of practice / qualifying sessions (1 per driver) and 8 of the races (2 per driver). The last 10 minutes of each practice session will count as the qualifying just like in the rookies. Also, just like in the Rookies, the grids for the first 5 races will be determined by the qualifying positions of the corresponding qualifying session. We will be using BUKC wrist bands like we did in the Rookies this year to ensure that drivers race in the race for their particular qualifying session. The grids for the last 5 races will be determined by the finishing position from the first 5 races. However it will be up to each team to decide which driver does each of the last 5 races. For example, we will not be insisting that the driver who did race 1 also has to do race 6, it will be up to your team to decide who does race 6. The downside here is that in order to fit all the racing and testing in we will need to start the days earlier. Arrival will be brought forward to 7.30. Briefing at 8.15 and we will be on track for 9am. The event should finish at around 6pm unless there are delays. Clearly every driver will not get as much testing (20 minutes instead of 30), so we are bringing the price down accordingly to £540 per team (£135 per driver). Hooray! So you can spend that extra £15 in the back at your student union either celebrating your qualification or drowning your sorrows. Regardless I would like to see pictures! For those teams that havent or are not testing their drivers prior to the qualifiers, the 20 minutes of practice on the day of the qualifiers will still count as meeting the minimum requirement just as it does in the rookies. The new format also means that the quicker drivers will be grouped together nicely toward the front and slower drivers at the back. We feel this will make the qualifiers safer, easier to roll up and will make false starts less likely. If you have any major objections please let me know.
