Hi all, got this from Aleta Miller who heads up the Justice Center Hong Kong. She cant commit due to time constraints but recommends a co-worker: Hi Steve! Thanks for the invite to speak at your TEDx event. Its a bit of a crazy time for the next few months as our NGO is relaunching and expanding, we will be Justice Centre Hong Kong by the end of the month and will include modern- day slavery as well as refugees in our areas of focus. So I dont want to say yes as Im not sure I can commit to putting aside the time to do a TEDx talk really well. One of my staff Victoria is a brilliant speaker, she does a lot of our campaigning work and has brought about some real change on the refugee issues we work on. She would be happy to do the talk, theres a bit about her and what she would speak on below. No drama at all if this isnt what you were after, but do let me know if your team would like to meet Victoria or include her as a speaker. All the best, Aleta Victoria Wisniewski Otero is a human rights advocate committed to social justice, the dignity of every person, and leveling the global playing field in general. Leapfrogging from the United States, Geneva, Kuwait, Spain and now Hong Kong, she joined the Hong Kong Refugee Advice Centre in 2013 as its first-ever Advocacy Officer. In her work campaigning for refugees in Hong Kong, she deals with many challenges. First, how do you get the majority interested in defending the rights of the minority? Second, in a society that places such high value on the rule of law, what do you do when the laws are unjust in the first place? Her talk will focus on how she is working to make Hong Kong a more tolerant and accepting society and how to creatively inspire people to take a stand and instill in them a hunger for change.
