Hi all, so I hate to cast the coming GLCF Bike-a-thon in such - TopicsExpress

Hi all, so I hate to cast the coming GLCF Bike-a-thon in such weighty terms, but as most of you may already know, I don’t live in Lowell. I haven’t been able to call myself a Lowell resident for nearly half a year now. But I still do my utmost organize and be involved in Lowell cycling related events because I don’t love just biking but I love Lowell too. I really stick my neck out for this place because no matter where I go, Lowell will always be my spiritual home and is still home to friends and family. It seems to me more than ever, there’s a struggle for the city of Lowell. Now is more critical than ever for us to write the narrative of Lowell beyond the headlines you read in the paper and not let the misguided actions of a small few monopolize how people think and feel about this city. Can we take this Bike-a-thon to showcase all the wonderful things about this city? Sometimes, when I ride through Lowell, I feel like I’m in on this big secret that Lowell can be a downright magical place. Let’s show each other and everyone there’s far more to Lowell than that and that it’s home to generous, caring people who look out for all in our community, especially those that are struggling. My family is riding to fundraise for the House of Hope, Inc. – a non-profit that’s done the honorable work of feeding and sheltering homeless families for nearly as long as I’ve been alive. Please help them continue their mission by donating through the page linked below. If you can’t contribute financially, that’s perfectly fine, you can help by volunteering or participating in the ride itself (which is a HUGE and fun ride with police escorts and traffic marshalls – you WON’T get any other opportunity to bike through Lowell this way). Or you can also help spread the word and share this even through all channels of social media. Seriously folks, let’s show everyone what Lowell’s all about! PS As a bonus, if I’m able to raise at least $500 for my team, you can be amused by me hauling down the entire 15-mile course in an Ewok costume. https://prod.mkat/mktixrun/shared/mknporun?dir=mktix.MKT-1139.GLCB-E40801&Event=GLCB-E40801&page=mk2eventregisterfrm.jsp#.VAoDgaNuHtd
