Hi, everybody. It has been a while since I have written. We have gotten off to a great start here at the Nordonia Schools! I write to you today with potentially promising news. In two weeks Nordonia Schools Business Manager Tom Hartman and I will be meeting with Northfield Village Mayor Jesse Nehez, his business manager, and a representative from ODOT to learn more about the Safe Routes to School Grant. Our hope is that Northfield Village will qualify for a grant to build a sidewalk on Ledge Road between Lee Eaton and Route 8. Both the Village and the schools have been receiving concerns from parents about the lack of sidewalks on Ledge Road for their children who walk to school. It is too early to speculate how much the grant would be for or if we will be awarded the grant. The next application cycle starts in January, 2014. However, I wanted you to know that we have heard the concerns and are working collaboratively with Mayor Nehez and his team to find a possible solution. If we qualify, the grant would require NO matching funds on behalf of the school or the Village. Keep your fingers crossed that we are successful in obtaining this funding. You can see more about the grant here: dot.state.oh.us/Divisions/Planning/SPPM/MajorPrograms/SafeRoutes/Pages/default.aspx For those wondering about the new sidewalk on South Bedford Road, we are extremely grateful to the City of Macedonia for completing that project. The Safe Routes to School Grant is only available for schools that serve students in grades K-8, so the City of Macedonia would not have qualified for a Safe Route to School Grant for the new sidewalk by Nordonia High School.
