Hi everyone - This is my first post here. Ive been reading so many of your stories and the different methods of treating this horrible disease. I was so sad to realize my boy Auguste has SLO and it wasnt just an injury from jumping our fence. I thought thats what it was initially. When I took him to our local vet he told me he would need surgery to remove 3 toenails. When I picked him up they told me they had to remove 5 toenails and that he probably has this really rare condition (SLO). I went home and started to read up on it. Im so sad and angry that this has happened to him! My poor boy! :( No more surgery. The aftermath of that was worse then what he goes thru when they come off on their own. They didnt give me anything for pain for him in the begining either. They said he should be in some pain so he didnt over do it. It was awful! I finally called and demanded it he was in so much pain! I feed my dogs a super high quality organic diet that I make myself. I was just wondering if anyone had tried more natural healing modalities vs the lifelong antibiotics and other SLO meds? Ive started giving him the fish oil but instead of antibiotics Ive been giving him colloidal silver everyday along with a blend of medicinal mushrooms and a blend of superfood powders. Nettles, noni, moringa, spirulina.. I got him some tramadol too but Im worried about his liver in the long run. Ive had good results with medical marijuana butter for pain control. I live in WA so its legal. He has lost all of his nails now and I can see they are starting to want to grow back..but the tips of his nails are so deformed I cant see how they will ever come back in normal.. Im so glad this page exits and that you all love your dogs like I love mine. I wish all dogs in the world were so lucky. This is my Auguste. Auguste Kevin when hes in trouble. ;) Boy does he get away with murder now that he is sick. Now it just makes me happy when hes feeling good enough to get into mischief these days.
