Hi everyone - supporting Christians Against Poverty A slightly longer than typical post - but timely for us as a church and at this time of year.... Some of you might recall we were recently privileged to hear from Will Holt -an intern at Christians Against Poverty. Will shared with us something of the CAP vision, and how we can begin to share in bringing that to life in our own community. Every day from the beginning of December until Christmas Day, Will has set himself 12 personal challenges -based on statistics taken from a recent survey of 1000people that CAP have helped. Some of the incredible challenges he has taken on so far have included… - 1 day with no shoes (including the commute to work): 27% couldn’t provide adequate clothes/shoes for their children - 2 nights sleeping in the car: 60% feared losing their homes; 14% threatened with eviction - 3 days eating only 3 tins of cold food: 67% sacrifice meals - 4 days without using a car or public transport: 64% of jobseekers do not have access to a car and two in five say lack of affordable transport is a barrier to getting a job. This is still to come: No Christmas dinner Wills challenge is based on the story of the founder of CAP: “The founder of CAP John Kirkby was also the first ever client of CAP. He went from a high flying business to a broken man overnight losing his business, his home, and facing family breakup. On Christmas Day 1995 John sat with his 2 young daughters and all they could afford for Christmas dinner was bacon sandwiches. The reality is that for hundreds of families in the UK this year, they will face that same experience.“ So in summary, Will is seeking to provide an opportunity for people to give to support those in terrible debt & poverty at this time of year, whilst also raising awareness of the reality of what life is sadly like for so many at Christmas. Will doesnt know Im doing this...... but as we set off on our own CAP journey Charlie, Clare & thought it would be great to share his inspiring initiative with the St Pauls family (you might also want to share it with your own friends) in order that those who wish to might support him in his amazing challenge. Maybe take a look at his youtube videos (https://youtube/watch?v=x0He7xaXIZ8) to learn more about CAP and the effects that debt has on so many people in the UK...... and / or ..... If anyone feels like making a donation that would be great https://justgiving/willholt
