Hi everyone, As a mum of two beautiful daughter I understand living on a budget and shopping around for a great deal. I have had a lot of requests for quotes over the last 18 months for savy customers on the hunt for the perfect cake and the perfect price :-). Wherever possible I will try to work around everyones budget to the point I have made a loss of several occations (to my husbands dismay lol) I started making cake when I was treated badly by a baker who took my order which I paid in full for my daughters first birthday cake and then 2 day before the big day phoned me demanding more money for the same cake, knowing I could not get another baker at short notice to cover the order. I try to keep my prices as competitive as possible and as fair as I believe my standard of baking and execution of the finished design demands. I have customers whom have had a better price else were, then returned their custom to me as they were no happy with the taste and finish they received. If it is to good to be true, believe me there is a reason for it. I know many fellow cake makers like myself who work hard to please their customers and do an amazing job (I will and have made recommendations to customers) Here are some of the reasons my prices are as they are :- 1) I use only Butter in my buttercream and never a cheaper alternative (unless dietary requirements require me to) 2) I use drums for my cakes and not flimsy thin boards (this is because thin boards are better suited to separate tiers as there are to flexible and can cause spits and cracks in cakes when there are being transported) 3) I only use free range eggs for customers cakes 4) I use more fondant than other home bakers, as I almost always cover my boards in fondant as It is a more professional finish to a overall design. 5) I use top quality professional food colour pastes and glitters from sugar flair and not cheap shimmers from poundland :-/ 6) I use larger boards than cakes require as it stops the cake itself being damaged in transit and also 9 times out of 10 I write on the board rather than the cake so that the writing doesnt take away from the design. 7) I do not use shop value brand flours ect I do use quality ingredients. 8) I use a top grade Vanilla extract (Nelsen and Massey), this make a huge difference in flavour. 9) I dont make sugar figures of disney characters, This is a choice both personal and legal choice, as I do not hold a license from disney to do so. So my characters are shop bought disney products (There is a heavy financial penalty from trade and standards if this rule is broken) 10) I do not buy my figures from ebay as many of u will have seen that there have been recent revelations that cheap figure are being made from toxic, cancer causing plastics. 11) when ordering my products from suppliers I am heavily hit by the ridicules postal costs due to our IV30 postcode :-( My word of warning to anyone ordering a cake from any cake maker, look at their reviews, these can not be changed by the cake maker. Also look at the pics and pay attention to the designs and finish of the cakes. Make sure that u would be happy to receive ur cake to that standard x I hope my little rant will help clarify and justify my prices, please do not think I make cakes for the money lol I can assure u this is not the case. A cake maker we pay themselves far less than even the basic mini wage of a 16 year old lol. Myself and other fellow cake makers do what we do for the love of expression on our customers faces when they see their cakes for the first time xxx
