Hi, everyone. I am in a real pickle here. My paternal grandmother - TopicsExpress

Hi, everyone. I am in a real pickle here. My paternal grandmother and paternal aunt (my late fathers sister, passed away 2013) were both DAR members. Ive been working on my paternal genealogy for some time now, especially after finally meeting my dads family for the first time last July (long story!). So heres my dilemma: I talked to my local DAR chapter in hopes of solving a very vexing genealogical brick wall. Heres the story: when I talked to our local DAR members to find out what Grandma and Aunt Polly had submitted as evidence of our lineage, it turned out, to my eternal frustration, that they had somehow omitted an entire generation! They submitted that my great-great grandmother Regina Sayre Wagner was the daughter of Daniel Sayre and Sinah Hayman Sayre. Regina was born in 1834, Daniel and Sinah were born in 1789. That would have made them both 45 years old at the time of her birth. However, my research has turned up that Reginas father Henry (12/1/1811 - 5/7/1900) was, in point of fact, Daniel and Sinahs son and that Regina was Henrys daughter by his spouse, Sarah Fairfax Marshall Sayre. Now, heres my problem: In trying to correct the lineage submitted by Grandma and Aunt Polly, that means submitting all of Sarahs lineage, which, maddeningly, has turned out to be next to impossible to verify. Based on census and death records, she was either born 1812, 1813, 1814 or 1819, on either March 4 or April 28. Where? No idea. By whom? No idea. The 1880 census has her being born in West Virginia and her parents, it says, were born in East Virginia. An 1881 death record (I have her date of death as 10/8/1881) records her age as being 62 years, 5 months, 10 days, putting her birth date at 4/28/1819. Her marriage certificate says that she was married to Henry Sayre on 3/31/1833. This would make her 13 at the time of her marriage. Her death record indicates that she was born in either Mon County Virginia or Wood County, Virginia. Mon would probably be short for Monongalia County. Both are in West Virginia now. So how do I solve this vexing genealogical brick wall and correct Grandma and Aunt Pollys record and get to the bottom of Sarahs birth and parentage? Any clues, suggestions, ideas?
