Hi everyone! I wanted to say a big hello to “y’inz” and introduce myself. My name is Bethany Peters. I’m honored to be this year’s Pittsburgh VisionWalk Chair. How did I get involved and why is the VisionWalk so important to me? We found out about VisionWalk last year after it was a “Charity of the Month” donation at a local company. It couldn’t have hit any closer to home for our family. Our son, Benjamin, is legally blind. Benjamin has Achromatopsia, otherwise known as stationary cone dystrophy. It is a retinal condition caused by a genetic mutation and affects his cone vision. He has limited vision. We know how much this has and will impact Benjamin’s life and thus the life of everyone else with a congenital or lifetime-onset blinding condition. We want to provide every opportunity we can for medical research and advancements to find treatments and cures for these conditions. We have only THREE months left until this year’s VisionWalk! So very exciting!! We had a great time last year. There were activities for the kids (we couldn’t get Ben out of the bounce house), food and drinks for everyone, basket raffles, and great entertainment. I’m personally looking forward to this year’s team T-shirt contest. My husband says he has plans for the “most awesomest T-shirts ever”. Please help us in getting the word out. Sign up to be the head of a team. Invite all of your family, friends and coworkers to attend and support your efforts. Pass on the word to local business owners. Every single person counts.
