Hi, everyone. I was just thinking of ten great books that Id like to recommend for you and your home and for your family this Christmas: 1) Roses Run (the novel) by Dawn Dumont. I think about this book all the time. Its brave, sassy, sincere. I loved every page. 2) Taans Moon: A Haida Moon Story by Alison Gear and Kiki van der Heiden and the children of Haida Gwaii. This book is a treasure! It celebrates the beauty of Haida Gwaii and it honours families working together to create something gorgeous and community building!! 3) Tilly by Monique Gray Smith. The fictional memoir is about the peace that comes from finding ones self. Its mending. Its soul medicine. 4) Wytches: the comic by Snyder and Jock (Image Comics). I am so in awe of the craft that goes into each issue. Is it horror or terror that I feel when I read each issue: oh its probably both. Check out issue number 1 and see if you can stop reading. 5) Everything by Leif Gregersen: his fiction, his poetry, his memoirs. Leif inspires me every single day with his writing. Whats great about Leif is you get to experience Edmonton through his eyes. His titles include The Base Jumper and Other Stories, Green Mountain Road, Through the Withering Storm, The First White of Winter Poems, Poems from Inside Me, and Mustang Summer and Inching Back to Sane: My Years with Bipolar. 6) A Moon Made of Copper (poetry) by Chris Bose. Riveting, wild and bold--Bose poetry rocks my soul! 7) Lightfinder by Aaron Paquette. Thank goodness that this is a trilogy because this is a world I never want to leave. 8) Check out the new issues of The Walking Dead. If you think the Governor was bad, well, just you wait. New ferocity is on its way. Eek! 9) Ready Player One by Ernest Cline is such a great novel for all of us raised in the 80s because its about our inheritance with pop culture. Thank goodness its going to be a movie. 10) Kwe: Standing With Our Sisters (the anthology, edited by Joseph Boyden). I have not read this yet but I cant wait to receive my copy. cbc.ca/books/2014/12/joseph-boyden-edits-new-anthology-highlighting-plight-of-first-nations-women.html. I could go on and on but these are the top 10 books that I wanted to celebrate today. What are yours? Mahsi cho and happy holidays!! Richard Van Camp
