Hi everyone ! Just wanted to share some ideas and free resources I picked up from OPSM today ! Over the past few months , my Kinders have shown a strong interest in optical shop and spectacles inspired by an episode from Charlie and Lola. In response to that, I set up an optical shop where we learnt about the optometrist , the optician and being the customer . In that experience , I provided opportunities for literacy ( eye test chart) , numeracy ( money concept as they pay for their spectacles) etc...Today I decided to extend this experience by picking up 15 Penny Pirate books from OPSM for free to give them to the children . My goal is for families to get involve by reading the story book with their child at home and come back to kinder to talk about their experience . I also plan to use the app on ipad in our classroom. I think its great that opsm has come up with this book because it not only teaches the children eye health but supports my childrens interest in pirates too ! For those who want to pick up a bulk I suggest calling the store before hand . One store in particular was reluctant to give 15 books to me and told me they only had 10 . When I got there I saw a cupboard full of books ! However I can understand why they reacted in that manner . I dont want to rob the chance off other families too .I did specify that these books are going to be for my students which helped a little I must say. Hope this helps ! Good luck !
