Hi everyone. Lately, there have been a few posts regarding communicable diseases on this page. For those of you that are newer to this profession, I thought I could share some insight. When I was a beginning hairstylist, the carnival came into town. My salon was close to the carnival and some carnies came by to have their eyebrows waxed. One of the stylists went ahead with the wax and I noticed that she was double dipping her stick. Needless to say, the next day, I went out and bought myself a new wax pot. During a different event, a customer of the salons came in and laughed about a technician at a different salon double dipping while waxing her behind. These stories arent only about waxing, they can be applied to any of the services we preform. We must commit to regular sanitation practices before and after each customer, for the safety of technicians as well as consumers. It is your job as a technician to provide a service that does not put your customer in danger, or spread contagious diseases. I want to remind old technicians and warn new technicians. You need to clean your tools as if every single customer has pink eye, lice, hepatitis, the common cold, the flu, etc. You cant see all diseases, and Im sure we arent always coming into contact with blood but at times we do. Please be careful to remember that every customer isnt going to tell you when they are sick, and dont ever work on someone that is obviously sick. In summary, clean your tools as if every customer has pink eye and please wash your hands before and after touching customers.
