Hi everyone Stefanie here with a quick update.... Erick has been in a lot of pain since Sunday and has been in and out of sleep for the better part of the last couple of days. He is receiving morphine to help manage the pain but it only seems to take a bit of the edge off. He has not had the energy to have visitors or even leave his room and unfortunately has not had any energy to write any updates. His breathing is labored and he seems to be experiencing discomfort with every breath. We spoke with one of his docs yesterday about the pain and they ordered another CT scan to assess what is happening in his chest. The CT scan showed a considerable build up of both air and liquid in his lungs. Again. Although they were able to remove the liquid last week bedside they believe that the amount that has built up since the weekend now requires surgery. They think he requires a chest tube that will drain out the contents of his lung by suction. The docs sent his scan to a surgeon at Toronto General Hospital for his opinion and we are waiting to hear back about the recommendation. If their hypothesis is confirmed he will be transferred to TGH for the surgery and then transferred back to St. Mikes. Unfortunately we did not hear anything by end of day yesterday. Ive crossed my fingers, toes, arms AND EYES at this point that we hear back soon. This morning soon. Stay tuned for updates and details.
