Hi everyone, need a bit of advice please. I am buying a new build property, exchanged contracts in May and due to complete in 2 weeks. I had my first look round inside 3 weeks ago and all construction was complete, windows and doors in and interior was being done, all looked good. Then last week I went along for an unplanned visit to check how interior was coming along and to my horror they had built these awful looking boxes under the windows in all upstairs rooms!! (See pic) site office had no clue what they were so asked her to find out ASAP! Anyway they very casually told me oh yes they need to be there to comply with fire regulations well Ive never seen or heard anything so ridiculous in all my life! It seems they have put the windows in too high and to fix the bodge, have put in the boxes so it meets regulations. This is my first house and Im so upset and disappointed they are there. To me they ruin the rooms and take up floor space. No one informed me and I dont remember seeing then on any plans. Ive been speaking to the planning dept at the local council and trying to speak with someone in building control but not much luck so far. Is there anything I can to to make them put this right? :-(
