Hi fellow dog-lovers of the OV! If you havent already heard the news, the Trout Lake community is very happy to announce today that the City Parks Board has decided to postpone the plan to reduce/or fence in the dog space at Trout Lake!!! So thrilled to know that the City is listening! We would like to try and rally the troupes of the OV to have a unified VOICE and WRITE LETTERS to the Parks Board regarding our off-leash situation. The consensus, after speaking to various people, is 1.WE NEED TO WRITE LETTERS. 2. And get as many people added to this FB page as possible. Please let us know youve written your letter by commenting done on this post. And help spread the word to everyone you meet! Some key things we could say in these letters: *subject: Expansion of Hinge Park: -The number of dog-owners in this very small area is HUGE (approx 40% in rental units alone- does anyone have an accurate stat?) and growing daily. There are 5 more buildings that will become occupied this summer. When that small space was built for off-leash, there was a fraction of the number of dog-owners. -Dogs absolutely need to run, to play, to socialize. We need a safe, encouraging space for them to do this (not to mention the dog owners!). This space has no drainage in winter, dusty and dirty in summer, is hard on their paws, dogs are getting hurt. -**Doesnt have to be a huge expense to the city (this is important as their budget is limited) - some sturdy grass that will not require a lot of maintenance would be great. Be encouraged to write your own personal thoughts, notes. The GM of parks board, Malcolm Bromley, got a good kick out of all the poems he received from Trout Lake residents :-) Keep it positive! We are responsible dog owners who want a dog-friendly city and access to space to make this possible.
