Hi folks, I thought I would get you all up to date and let you know that I had a couple of guys in the shop today getting me up to date on the mackerel. The first, a regular, was telling me he was out fishing yesterday evening and the birds were going mad a couple hundred yards offshore, and he was pretty sure that it was a fair size shoal of mackerel. The second was a boat owner who was in to get some gear who was saying that the main shoals are not far off and the smaller shoals are just offshore now. I thought that was good news and needed to be passed on to everyone. Then as I started to write this up, my granddaughter came in with her lad and they tell me that a couple of people have just caught a few mackerel off the south breakwater. OK, it is probably not the main shoal by any stretch of the imagination, but it could be the forerunner of a busy period like some years in the past! I had better start getting more feathers in! I look forward to seeing you guys that I only see at this time of year again, we always have a good crack! All the best to you all. By the way, dont forget the big Fishing Competition on Scotstoun Beach on 1st June. It is for charity after all. There are 2 rods and reels up for grabs as well, so get in there and lets see who the best fishermen are! The money, by the way, goes to the Roof Garden Appeal at ARI so that there is somewhere to take patients for a little peace during recovery after particularly difficult operations etc, yet they are still under close observation. A very worthwhile project!
