Hi group, I thought I would share something I thought about today - TopicsExpress

Hi group, I thought I would share something I thought about today as I was trying find something else healthy and yummy my VERY picky eater who is lactating would eat…. I have seen a few posts from others who struggle with picky eaters and I know others are very partial opinionated about your dogfood… I am not talking dogfood health facts or brands nor do I claim to be a dog nutritionist/specialist… However, I am a vet and about 2 years ago I went to a conference on the feeding of diabetic dogs and cats (trust me the brain trust of vets out there agree on nothing either ;))….however, a lady that was a specialist spoke up about FLAVOR FATIGUE and that animals experience it. She gave the example that a client comes in and says my dog will not eat this yummy expensive canned food I buy him! She said are you feeding it every day? She said you as a human - if you ate steak or salmon every day 3 times a day and that’s what you had to eat every day for the rest of your life….after about the 4th day you would be sick of the that rich, salient food too. Her point was that yummy, rich canned food is not needed or wanted every day – the animals get fatigued to the taste. I also find with my dogs when I switch up the tastes of their food, they eat better. No I am not advocating switching food or brands all the time so please don’t think that is what I mean…. But if you feed a brand that has different flavors (like Taste of the Wild), and especially if you have a picky eater – your dog might appreciate the variety :) We do as people!
