Hi guys. Just wanted to share with you the anchor setup I use on my Hobie PA14. I start with a standard sand anchor, attached to this with u-bolts is 1.5 metres of chain followed by 20 metres of 10mm nylon rope, and then at the end I have a large float. I use a sand anchor as Im almost always fishing on sand or weed. The chain is to make sure it sits flat. When Ive thrown the anchor out and have the length I need I put a simple loop knot in the rope and attach the loop to a 1 metre bungee cord with clips which is attached to my anchor trolley. The bungee cord is used to absorb the shock of bouncing around with the swell. And the float at the end of the rope is so if in the event of hooking a decent fish, I can quickly unclip the anchor rope from the bungee cord and just throw the top overboard and continue fighting the fish, once Im done with the fish the float is easy to spot and I can retrieve my anchor. Anchors are often not on many kayak fishers list of required items, but I believe them to be essential. I never leave without mine. I hope that my setup will appeal to some of you. Thanks.
