Despite the fact we are heart of Eurasia (between Europe and Asia, and very multinational, the effect of being part of USSR), Kazakhstan is a place of fascinating contrasts between old and new, from modern cities to nomadic traditions, all set against a backdrop of beautiful untouched nature... and one of this best city is Almaty... Almaty is the biggest city in Kazakhstan. The word alma in Kazakh stands for apple, and Almaty literally translates as rich in apples. The former capital of the country - Almaty is financial, cultural and science cente of Kazakhstan. This unique city bears in itself traits of the European and Asian architectural traditions considering national colouring. In greens of parks and squares, in silvery streams of fountains, in shine of steel and glass of new buildings you will see the face of modern city. Moreover you will have opportunity to experience the extraordinary mountain scenery in the close proximity to the city whether by vehisle or flying.
