Hi, here is your homework this week if you are up to the challenge. This week alone I have been notified by 4 people that their dog was attacked or they were frightened by dog (dogs) that were out of control . From being un reliable on recalls or not being socialised and trained. OR BOTH. This has happened around Nuneaton, Bulkington, Bedworth area. Q. So what are your thoughts on this. THE FORES AND AGAINST .Why u think its ok OR why u think its not. I said the other day I love debates but we have to have reasons why we dislike something or why we think it’s a good idea., do u think it should be allowed that unreliable, (and I say that because not all dogs are going if for a fight.) Should be allowed off lead in a (PUBLIC PLACE). And even if the off lead dog is friendly, the other person with their dog on a lead may have rescued theirs, and it may have Behavioural Problems. Also do people really know what classes a dog as out of control. If you don’t then it will be written below. This information is from Defra. Most people think that this only applies to muzzled or dogs with aggressive tendencies dogs, WRONG. Also your thoughts on pack walks off lead IN PUBLIC PLACES. They can range from 5 dogs up to 15 to 20. THESE ARE SPROUTING UP ALL OVER THE COUNTRY. Remember meeting a friend in the park is different from group walks. But saying that both should be under control. Now these types of groups are not new. BUT YEARS AGO THEY WERE FORMED, CONTROLLED AND SOCIALISED BY PROFESSIONALS ON PRIVATE GROUND, A FENCED IN FIELD UNDER CONTROL WITH INSTRUCTOR‘S. Angela Stockdale has been running them for years. The only difference is you have to pay and she will socialise your dog for you in her pack. So to me there is a difference between a pack walk, (where they walk with their owner.) And running off lead in a park or field. To me a bond cannot be fully formed between owner and dog with a lot of free run. A pack walk in the doggie world is when dogs follow their Alphas when they hunt or migrate. I have never seen a homeless person( living on the streets with a dog out of control) . I have seen idiots BUT NOT HOMELESS .Yes they need exercise you may say, but again is this ok if they are not reliable. Also IS THIS Responsible dog ownership. If you come across Horses, they can be spooked and can bolt and buck causing the rider to fall and sustain serious injuries. Some people, however, either do not like dogs or are frightened by them, especially children and the elderly who can topple over when dogs jump up. I was surprised on Sunday the people that didn’t realise their dog could be shot if they just accidentally entered a farmers field with sheep. Is it not their park etc as well. Also where do u stand legally if your dog causes damage to other dogs and people in a public place. Whether on your own or in a group walk. Or where do u stand if your dog is attacked in a public place. either with 1,2 or several dogs. Do we not have the responsibility to others as well as the dogs to make sure that we are all as careful as possible as we share parks. If people thought a little more. Dangerous Dogs Act need not be needed. REMEMBER THE DOG WILL ALWAYS PAY THE PRICE. GENERALLY ITS WITH HIS LIFE. Waiting in anticipation. THIS I WHAT U NEED TO KNOW. DEFRA. 1. Overview It’s against the law to let a dog be dangerously out of control: in a public place in a private place where the dog isn’t allowed to be (eg a neighbour’s house or garden without permission) The law applies to all dogs. Out of control Your dog is considered dangerously out of control if it: injures someone makes someone worried that it might injure them A court could also decide that your dog is dangerously out of control if: it injures someone’s animal the owner of the animal thinks they could be injured if they tried to stop your dog attacking their animal 3. Dog Control Orders Local councils in England and Wales can issue Dog Control Orders (DCOs). These mean that in public areas with DCOs, you may have to: keep your dog on a lead put your dog on a lead if told to by a police officer, police community support officer or someone from the council stop your dog going in certain places - like farmland or parts of a park limit the number of dogs you have with you (this applies to professional dog walkers too) clear up after your dog DCOs don’t apply to private land if you have permission from the land owner or person who controls the land.
