Hi my name is, Rosaline Knobbs, I’m a retired nurse from Perth Australia and came to Kenya specifically to help start Hope House Babies Home (the "Home") in 2002, a home for babies that have no home and are usually found abandoned. The Home is registered as a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) and is also licensed by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Development .The Home opened with two babies and has since grown to care for up to 23 babies at any one time. We accept babies aged between a day old to six (6) months. The babies are brought in mostly from hospitals and clinics and the Home cares for them until they are either adopted or attain the age of three (3) years. Once they attain the age of three (3) before they are adopted, we graduate them to a carefully vetted home that cares for older children. Since the home was started, three hundred (300) babies have been adopted and now have their own homes, by mostly Kenyan families. The Home receives no funding from the Government and relies completely on the generosity of people from Kenya and overseas to provide the necessary funds and gifts needed to care for the babies and maintain the home. We are currently facing an array of financial constraints and finding difficult to run the Home without the financial support we desperately need. Our expenses and debts consist of, among other things, the following: • Food; • Outstanding salaries for staff; • Rent; • Utilities; • Security; • Babies milk formula; • Van repair and maintenance; and • Medicines. We do have many supporters but we cannot sustain the Home on intermittent donations and we are therefore actively seeking out a regular flow of income on a monthly (or other periodic basis). This way we can effectively and efficiently budget and cater for the Homes needs The Home operates a transparent system of payments and we would be happy to cater to your needs regarding accountability for payments if you so wish.
