Hi there, Ive just realised that Ive been a bit rude, and not introduced myself yet. My name is John, and Im a Karate-ka, and Judo-ka. Ive been studying Martial Arts since I was seven years old back in 1977. I currently hold the grades of Yondan in Shito-ryu Karate, and Shodan in Judo. Im the Scottish Correspondent for the UK printed Martial Arts publication Martial Arts Illustrated, and regularly contribute tournament reports, interviews, and articles from various ends of the Martial Arts Spectrum, and Im very into Sport Karate and Kickboxing as well, and have recently been approached about the possibility of becoming the PR for the British Kickboxing Council (Scotland), and taking on the role of Traditional Kata/Forms Coach for the World Karate and Kickboxing Commision (WKC) Scotland Squad. The reason I requested to join this board was, despite Shito-ryu being seen as a Japanese ryu-ha, the systems which influenced Mabuni in the creation of Shito-ryu. One of my mentors passions was researching the styles which influenced Mabuni. As a result, my Shorin and Aragaki Kata are more akin to those in Shorin-ryu, and my Shorei Kata resemble those from Goju more than Shito-ryu. Does that make what I study less Shito-ryu and more something else? Meh...I dont care. Shito-ryu is a label, and doesnt define my path.
