High Command struggling to wriggle out! New Delhi/Hyderabad: AICC President and UPA Chairperson, Sonia Gandhi today apprised herself of the developments in Andhra Pradesh in the wake of the ongoing agitation in Seemandhra against bifurcation of the state. She got a detailed briefing on the prevailing situation in Andhra Pradesh from party General Secretary Digvijay Singh who called on her this morning. During his half an hour meeting with the AICC President, Digvijay Singh is understood to have detailed her about the 60-day agitation in the region as a result of which the entire administration had come to a standstill besides the normal life going hay wire. Both the leaders are understood to have discussed the ways and means to prevail upon the striking employees to call off their agitation and avoid further trouble to the common people. The cabinet note on Telangana and the present stage where it got stuck seems to have also been discussed. According to informed sources, they seem to have also deliberated about the delay in the finalization of the cabinet note on Telangana in view of the ill-health of Defence Minister A.K. Anthony. Whether the cabinet note should be finalized without waiting for the Anthony Committee report and the pros and cons of such a move was also deliberated thoroughly. Digvijay Singh is understood to have also briefed Sonia Gandhi about the agitated mood of the Union Ministers and the MPs from the Seemandhra region who want the process of Telangana formation to be halted till various concerns and apprehensions of the people in all the three regions of the state are resolved satisfactorily. He also brought to the party chief’s notice about the Congress MPs from the region determined to resign if the T process is not halted. Both Sonia Gandhi and Digvijay Singh seemed to have also applied their mind over the status of Hyderabad which has now become a contentious issue. According to informed sources it has now dawned on the central leaders that they have been caught between the devil and the deep sea following the CWC announcement to bifurcate the state. They are now struggling to wriggle out of this situation, these sources said. Meanwhile Congress MP Anantha Venkatram Reddy reiterated that the party MPs from the Seemandhras region were committed for a united state and determined to resign if the central leaders go ahead with the T process. He said that the MPs had already submitted their resignations and would now bring pressure on the Speaker of the Lok Sabha to accept the same. In reply to a question, he said though there were divergent views among the MPs regarding resignations, there was unanimity among them so far as the demand for maintaining status quo of the state is concerned. Asserting once again that people of no one region could claim sole right over Hyderabad, he condemned the provocative and abusive tone and tenor of some leaders against the Samaikya leaders.
