High School New York City Mission Team Update Going into this year’s mission trip I had high expectations. The mission trip to Milwaukee last summer was just such an amazing experience, that I wasn’t sure if this mission trip would be able to top that. It is very difficult to not compare past mission trips to each other and I didn’t want that to happen this year. As we drove up to the church that we were going to be staying at, I knew that it was going to be very different from last year. After we parked and all got out of the vehicles, we enter the gym and I realized that we wouldn’t be able to play full court basketball and volleyball like we did last year. I continued to remind myself that this was a new mission trip and a new experience that God had placed in front of me. As the first day continued we found out that there wasn’t any air conditioning in the church and I knew we were going to be sweating a lot. The shower situation was different than last year as well; we had to shower in a shower trailer with only seven showers. By the time everything was unloaded from the vehicles and everyone was settled in their rooms; it was time for the first worship session. As we began to worship, I could feel that God was telling me that this mission trip wasn’t going to be about how well our sleeping conditions are or how nice the facilities that we are staying at are, but to make the most of every opportunity we are given. So as the week continued I was constantly reminded that serving God was not about where we serve, but about the attitude we have while serving. Through this experience, I was challenged to carry out the servant attitude not just for this week, but to take it with me as I attend Huntington University this fall. ~Garrett Vandersaul
