High taxes in Washington state are enriching the black market. - TopicsExpress

High taxes in Washington state are enriching the black market. Business owners say they cant compete. Um, so like, many of us saw this happening a mile away. If you already have a black market, then it will continue to flourish if any form of prohibition exists. This is taught by respected economists. Anyhow, blaming it on medical marijuana is an unfair attack on behalf of industry on a small group of underfunded individuals and is very unethical. Those acting illegally will become low hanging fruit in a regulated market, even those that arent registered because their activities will stand out more. We need to look at the very obvious issues that contribute to the surge in the black market: high taxes, high and nonrefundable application fees, high licensing fees, other high capital costs, such as real estate and build outs and staff, and licensing fees and other capital costs, high costs to get employment badges, restrictions on employment, etc. Why arent we considering these issues? And if politicians are missing the fact that this is an attack on the medical program on behalf of industry to get more clients, a money grab from certain lawmakers, and an unethical bait and switch tactic used on voters who voted for medical marijuana and who are happy with their chosen caregiver model, then they are not fully understanding the social political and behavioral economic factors driving the behavior of the whole movement/industry. We cant create policy out of fear and greed, and regulate an industry so severely that it may as well still be prohibited. It only creates more problems and adds to existing problems. news.yahoo/medical-marijuana-challenge-legal-pot-states-052859824--finance.html
