(Proverbs 4:20) “Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears” was the opening of Mark Anthony’s funeral oration for Julius Caesar. The expression has become a popular English phrase and is a polite way of asking for people’s full attention. There is a difference between hearing and listening. Hearing is one of our five physical senses, but listening is a skill to be developed with practice. The key to effective communication is listening. Effective listening comes by paying attention to the words of the speaker. Many youths suffer from attention deficit. They are unable to pay attention in class, in Church and at home. They receive instructions but make little use of them. Lack of attention is often caused by forgetfulness and unnecessary distractions. You will miss a lot in life when you fail to listen attentively. According to Rachel Naomi Remen, “The most basic and powerful way to connect to another person is to listen. Just listen. Perhaps the most important thing we ever give each other is our attention”. Take heed to God’s counsel today. Challenge: : Effective listening requires concentration Prayer:Lord, I will incline my ears to your words Further Reading:Isaiah 50:1-5 Quotation:Just listen
