Highlights from this mornings Cherry Creek Community legislative Network Breakfast with our Legislators: Each legislator in attendance (Senator Nancy Todd, Senator Morgan Carroll, Senator David Balmer, Representative John Buckner, Representative Daniel Kagan, Representative Su Ryden, and Representative Jack Tate [by proxy in attendance] raised his or her hand, agreeing to work with parents, educators and students to sponsor or co-sponsor legislation to reduce time spent testing. In response to what message they heard from last weeks mass parent and student refusals... Senator Nancy Todd: We as a state cannot downplay what is happening. Senator Morgan Carroll: Kids care. They are over tested. Tests are not well matched to what they are being taught. We have too many of them. Senator David Balmer: Stars are aligning for a testing reform bill to pass. Consensus is building. Thank you for having the courage to stand up. Representative John Buckner: What is the right amount and right information we need to continue to improve. The conversation needs to be had. We should listen to 17 year olds more often. Representative Jack Tate (by proxy in attendance): I opted my own son out (proxys son). Representative Daniel Kagan: Data is valuable. Constant efforts in commercial world to use that data. But there is a fundamental difference between a teacher or student in high school and a person buying shoes from Zappos. Our teachers and students werent given a choice. Representative Su Ryden: Less is more. You have a locally elected school board.
