Highlights of Good Morning Sierra Leone Program on Radio Democracy F.M. 98.1-Tuesday18th March, 2014 APC Chairman for Pujehun District, Mohamed Dabemdeh on developments in the area • The people now appreciate the President for the developments in the District • The APC Government has paved the road, provided electricity and water supply and constructed a lodge • The President has reactivated the party in the District that has attracted youths to the APC • The law enforcement agencies are on top of the situation-they are exposing perpetrators of human rights abuses and violence against women • The bust of the President has been erected at the party headquarters in the township-it is attracting hundreds of people • The President’s popularity has increased tremendously in the District • But there are still challenges Station reporter on the book of condolence opened for former President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah at State House on 17th March 2014 • President Koroma signed the book of condolence and in his speech said that former President Kabbah healed the nation with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the National Commission for Reconstruction, Resettlement and Rehabilitation • That he gave Sierra Leoneans justice with the Special Court • That there are many things to learn from the life he lived • That the country has lost a great Sierra Leonean • The VP, Ministers and other dignitaries signed the book of condolence SLPP Publicity Secretary, Musa Tamba Sam on the same issue • SLPP is asking Sierra Leoneans to wear black dress on 21st March • The former President is one of the best leaders that country has had • He created the IMC • His death is a loss to the country, the party and his family • Government is collaborating with the party to organise the funeral • Inviting other political parties to join in the mourning • Everybody is expressing concern over the death of the former President • A stakeholders’ meeting will be held today-the party has also visited the residence to sympathise with the family • The party’s program will be merged with that of Government and the family • The party gave him the opportunity to become President-the party is very proud of him-he brought peace-his legacies are good governance and democracy • He is an idol–had a very good relationship with the party • The party will also open a condolence book for him • He placed Sierra Leone on the international map Station reporter on the skirmishes in Kono District over a disputed land • The issue has created tension in the township • The land is near the residence of the VP • The alleged owner of the land named Phebian plans to construct a hospital for the people but her documents are questionable • She has been working on the land for the past 6 months • The contentious issues are ownership of the land and not to construct a hospital near the residence of the VP • The mayor had ordered work to stop • Youths mobilised to the land and stopped the work that resulted to police intervention • The police said they had ordered the work to stop since December last year • The Deputy Minister of Political Affairs Karamoh Kabba had stated that the work must go on • The issue has taken a different dimension with spill-over effects to the Diamond Dealers Association and other organisations • The VP and Phebian have not been reached to comment on the issue • The mayor has prevented the work from progressing • The documents of Phebian are dated 6th March 2014 • Some people sustained injuries during the skirmishes
