Hinge Hardware Tip: Consider the use of the hinge when choosing a hinge type. - For a low frequency door without a closer, such as interior doors, apartment bedrooms, and closets, use a plain bearing (standard weight) hinge. - For moderate to high frequency applications, such as an exterior door, fire rated doors or classroom doors, all with closers, use a ball bearing (standard weight) hinge. - For very high frequency applications, such as very heavy or extra large doors or the main entrances of a high volume traffic building, use extra heavy weight hinges (4-ball bearing).
