Hip Hop excites me. The culture and the different genres it can incorporate, the margin it finds between marginally representative and statistically relevant. Hip Hop encompasses the thoughts and values of its artist, and can be used to convey songs of incredible and beautiful meaning, as well as less meaningful, more entertaining songs. The truth is, neither type of the genre has more merit than the other, and that is also what makes it beautiful. It is its own microcosm, a frame that holds within it the complexity of musics core, the ability to touch us spiritually, intellectually and energetically. The greatest power it holds is its flexibility, and when I hear people say, I dont like Hip Hop, and I cant help but think, You just havent heard the right kind.
