Recently one producer looked at his line-up and asked, Is that one (a singer) male or female? I cant tell. Get it off the stage until appropriate attire is obtained. So even proponents of MTV hip-hop gospel shows (worship) have limits. If limits are necessary, the parameters of those limits are, without doubt up for debate without the mote-in-the-eye attempt to silence careful deliberation . DENIM CLAD OR SEVILLE ROW Joel Osteen cannot be charged with less than stellar ratings and approvals. He reaches the outer limits of the audiences with his message. Yet sartorial excellence is the rule of his presentation. His wife is the epitome of runway power dress. The world sees professional presentation of the power of the Gospel without ear splitting hard rock obstruction. WILL ROCK ROCK THE AGES The youthful compromise with immature dress and hard rock patois may be a summer fruit incapable of placement in history with Handels Messiah, Billy Grahams Bev Shea or most recently the inspirations of Darlene Checzh (sic) in Sydney. Must we give leadership to the most radical, obnoxious in extreme, forms of music and dance and performance attire just to obtain approval of twenty-somethings? Is our expedient impatience the best choice for the future? HEAVENLY PANCAKE My generation tested the limits primarily in womens fashion. The plain pentecostal woman became the most beautiful example of runway haute couture. From that adjustment or arrangement, the limits are now almost non existent for male or female ordinations to the gospel ministry. TAIL WAGS DOG Any attempt at moderation or discipline in fashion is silenced by the bend-over-backward fear of the loss of cultural relevance. Our Pentecostal dalliance with kingdom now, word of faith, name-it-and-claim-it, give to get, burn your bills silliness now turns once again to a short romance with ghetto fashion, punk rock heavy metal tantrum forestalling parental permissiveness which obscures the world wide mission of the church. Ear-splitting third rate rock extravaganzas on smoke-machined,stages and darkened auditoriums will not be the historical markers of this early 21st century church. THIRD WORLD EMERGES More important is church development among Hispanic, African and Asian populations. The hip-hop, I Think I Can Dance presentations are blips on the radar compared to Pentecostal revolutions in South America, Africa and Asia. The world mission will be the story of this century. Not hip hop rockers who cant make it in real world venues. The inclusion of Hispanic America in the mainstream pentecostal movement is our real developmental and growth story. IT CAME TO PASS Other voices will somehow obliterate the interlude of the evangelical dalliance with the hard rock MTV underbelly of social maturation. Progression to the mean is a statistical reality. So for those who test the outer limits in dress, behavior, personal make-up and ghetto garb in an attempt to relate, I simply ask for Biblical Holy Spirit moderation to be the governor on our rocket engines as we blast off for a future. More than likely I will not be around to comment when cultural issues are dove-tailed into reality. PRESS ON However, I really try hard to know what may be the best heart of worship in Gods Will and in the context of Reach Teach Preach for all the world. The music is perfect then. Closing my eyes removes the outlandish eclectic garbs. Tolerance is achieved. God sees and hears. If youth is served, may the aged relax and glide into heavenly reward. HOP and CHANGE Hop and Changeis the ecclesiastical order of our todays movement. In spite if the new orders, I will not leave the church. However, Im able to express the reservation of maturation.
