His Excellency Umaru Tanko Almakura has described Nasarawa State as a religious friendly state where the Muslims and the Christians live in peace. Gov. Almakura disclosed this as he received Mr. John Kennedy Opara (JP), The Executive Secretary Christian Pilgrims Board and his delegation at the Presidential Lodge Lafia. He welcomed the Executive Secretary and his delegation to the state, stating that he was craving the visit , which was good for him due to his relationship with the board , it would also be good for the Christian community in Nasarawa State , and it would be good for the Christian Pilgrims board ,he describe the Executive Secretary as a very caring person that always welcomes everyone as a brother , he congratulated him on the way and manner he had been managing the affairs of the commission, further stating the way the Nasarawa state delegation came back and spoke on how they had felt very honoured by the treatment giving to them. He said that the state would l definitely support the commission and assist by sponsoring some persons to go for the Holy Pilgrimage. Lastly he, called for more synergy and openness to dialogue stating that a lot of things that happen that create disharmony between two different faiths are due to ignorance and persons with very bad intentions for the state. He made it clear that his government would not discriminate on the basis of religion. Earlier in his address, Mr. John Kennedy Opara said he had come to acknowledge with great gratitude to God for the way and manner Gov. Almakura responded to him when he came to visit last year, commending the listening ear and taking action of Gov. Almakura , stating that” a leader rises to the occasion to meet the needs of his people”, describing his leadership style as inspiring. He commended Gov. Almakura for his efforts despite the lean resources of the state that he was able to send 438 pilgrims to the Holy Land last year to go with the 1st sitting Nigerian President to go on the pilgrimage . He commended him for the efforts in the area of agriculture, transportation and free education , commending his ability touch so many lives , calling of the youths to emulate his actions and they will surely not go wrong. He called on him to ensure that many pilgrims get to go to the holy Land stating that they were using it as a tool for moral and spiritual transformation in moving the nation forward, believing that all those that go on the holy trip help the government move forward, calling on private individuals and well to do companies to assist by sponsoring persons to the Holy Land , stating that the Federal Government had subsided the foreign currency down to $1 to N150 for both the Muslim and Christian pilgrimages this year.
