Historic Hillside - 403 East Union Street, Hartford, Kentucky Construction on Historic Hillside began in 1861 for Hartford surgeon Dr. J.E. Pendleton and his wife. The brick for the home was fired on the premises. Construction was halted during the Civil War when Dr. Pendleton organized a company to fight for the South. Construction resumed a few year later and the home was completed in 1865. Dr. Pendleton had his physicians offices in the home. The tower on the third level of the property was used as a studio for Pendletons wife, who was an artist. The property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. For many years the property was open to the public as a Bed & Breakfast, but today, the historic landmark is a private residence.
