Historic Windows Seminar Saturday, March 29, 2014 9-12 p.m. at the City Council Chambers, City Hall, Mt. Vernon Tour in afternoon, weather permitting No charge to Mt. Vernon residents $5.00 for non-residents payable at the door Handouts will be provided If you are contemplating what to do about your “drafty old windows” and are considering replacement or just need more information, please attend this seminar and learn how the rehab and repair of existing windows can increase their efficiency at a cost substantially less than replacement windows. Historic windows are a character-defining component of historic houses and commercial buildings, and their loss can dramatically change the historic look of a building. Repairing and rehab of existing windows is also very “green” saving materials that would otherwise end up in the landfill. David Wadsworth of Wadsworth Construction in Decorah, Iowa, will present the seminar and lead the tour, which will include looking at a recent home window restoration project here in Mt. Vernon. There will also be information in the form of handouts about resources for window restoration/rehabilitation and storm windows. This seminar is sponsored by the City of Mt. Vernon and the Mt. Vernon Historic Preservation Commission. For those serving on Historic Preservation Commissions in Iowa, this seminar will count towards the annual CLG training requirement. If you have any questions or need more information, please call Leah Rogers at 319-895-8330 or email at LDRog215@aol.
