Historic moment: UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities adopts General Comment No. 1 on Article 12, dealing with legal capacity. Includes the prohibition of nonconsensual psychiatric interventions, and a statement that we retain our legal capacity to make decisions at all times including in situations of crisis. This does not have immediate impact in the U.S., but it is a huge boost to countries throughout the world where our colleagues are starting to work on dismantling guardianship, institutionalization, forced treatment and other abuses.
