Historic tidbits about Ethiopia on this date on June 24 -------------------------- --- On this date on June 24, 2009, the icon of paleoanthropology the famous 3.2 million-year-old hominid, Lucy of Ethiopia, went on display at New Yorks Discovery Times Square Exposition as part of the Lucys Legacy: The Hidden Treasures of Ethiopia tour. It was the third city in North American to appear to help raise awareness and celebrate Ethiopia. Prior to New York, the tour visited Houston and Seattle. It was the first time the priceless fossil has appeared to the public outside of Ethiopia. In addition, some 100 artifacts illuminating Ethiopias rich heritage, including early stone tools, coins, religious artifacts, musical instruments, and paintings would also be on display. The tour came with its own controversy, as many paleoanthropologists questioned the risk of damaging Lucy in transport. The tour hopes to raise much needed publicity for Ethiopia and will help raise funds for its museums back home. --- On this date on June 24, 1977, the United Press International reported that Ethiopia denounced the United states today as a nation soaked in blood and imposed an extended curfew on this capital.
