Historically, the significance of today was about gaining freedom - TopicsExpress

Historically, the significance of today was about gaining freedom from a sytem of tyrannical rule. Presently, I question the significance of today. In a time of assault on multiple amendments and unalienable rights by way of wiretaps, a massive federal government listening, watching and scrutinizing your every move, attempts to limit the 2nd amendment, criminalizing law-abiding citizens, legislating and regulating every aspect of capitalism, excessive taxation, daily illegal search and siezures countrywide, contracting of states rights, the diminishing of God and Christian values while propping up Allah and the muslim faith, etc...just to name a few. Would our forefathers and ancestors be proud of where we are today? A tax on tea was enough to create an uprising back then. Ultimately creating one great nation. But today, a tax on rainwater falling in your driveway is viewed as standard operating procedure. Happy Independence Day? Hardly. Pay attention to the current events of Egypt, recognize they are a people of good intentions as our forefathers once were. Our modern day President promotes tyranny abroad and uses a persuasive dialogue along with behind the scenes strong arming to keep us in the dark. Ask yourself, are we even worthy of celebrating or remembering the historical heroes while rolling over and turning a blind eye to the control and the corruption of todays government? Sorry for the long post and please do not call it or myself unpatriotic unless we can agree that definition of a patriot has changed immensely since 1776.
