History is tempted to remember only the humiliation of defeat, not - TopicsExpress

History is tempted to remember only the humiliation of defeat, not the solemn pride of sacrifice. Only accidental personalities not destined fallen heroes. Only the loud boisterous roar of the helicopter’s wings, not the humble trudging along the farm roads. Only the unabashed neighing of the horse, not the silent swoop of the crane’s wings. History is tempted to remember only the overstated contribution of a giant neighbour, not her tacit oppression of a smaller but indestructible neighbour. But we, we are the present, and the whisper of today speaks louder than the bellowing of history. So in the mist of eternity, may our whispers carry the truth. My dear India, we would have immortalized you. But you desecrated the sacred institution bequeathed to us by our great father, The Fourth Dragon King of the Kingdom of Bhutan. We Bhutanese believe that the coming of our divine father was pre-ordained and so his every word, his every action is sacred. Hence, your recent transgressions are sacrilegious. And while our government is muted in expressing resentment (the reasons for which we respect and understand), you may ask who we are to speak on behalf of the motherland? It is us the sons and daughters of Pelden Drukpa who will spill our hearts dry and spread the words of your dishonourable deeds. It is upon us to express our discontentment of the breach of trust at all levels through such humble verbal resistance. It is our responsibility to prove that we shall not succumb to tacit oppression. We are a sovereign nation. It is our responsibility. Lest we lay rest to the grace in our tongues and subdue the burning passion in our hearts. Who are we? We are the sons and daughters of Pelden Drukpa. Peldeeeennnn Drukpaaaaa…Gaylooooo!!!! A bit dramatic aren’t I? I know I know, I’m overreacting… but you tell me who it was that overreacted to a humble neighbour’s aspirations….
