History saved. Anytime that you can preserve a historic house or building in Kent is a good day indeed. I really hope that this signals a sea change in attitudes toward historic preservation here locally. There has been a great deal of push back against the demolition of our historic structures, in particular, since the tragic loss of the Robin Hood, still mourned by so many of us. This 1881 Wheeling & Lake Erie Depot has been spared from the wrecking ball and watching it move this morning along with so many other witnesses, I could see a lot of people beaming happily at seeing this wonderful old piece of local railroad history saved. Everyone I spoke to was elated and thrilled that this was being saved and I am delighted that so many are on our side where saving our historic architecture is concerned. May we now understand more clearly that history once lost is gone forever.
