Hmmmmm, I’m very curious. Have you ever watched the process in which a typical monkey is snared and trapped into captivity??? Well, a gourd is used, usually with a narrow neck. Bait is dropped into the gourd, a piece of fruit, or usually something shiny and eye catching. The monkey puts his hand into the gourd to get the bait, and then he or she are essentially trapped because he or she simply cant get his or her fist out simultaneously with the bait. Now you may ask yourself once he/she realizes he or she are trapped, why doesnt the monkey let go of the bait??? The answer is simple, it is because his/her greed makes him or her blind. Finally, you may ask what is he or she greedy for??? This answer is simple enough; fact is, the monkey is always greedy for what he or she thinks he or she is not intended to or cannot have… What Ive just described to you is also known as Consumerism. The time has come for us to face the music!!! Everyone knows the American population, as is, is indeed, an aging population!!! Census stats tell us there are about 40 million Americans Age-65 and older today. Approximately 17 million of them are men, 23 million of them are women. Eighty million more Americans are between the ages of 45 and 64, and about 3.5 million hit the near-senior status of Age 55 every year. The older you are, the more likely you are to vote. At every election, but especially in off-year elections like the one approaching in November. The older you are, the more Conservative most of us tend to be. Mitt Romney won 55.6 percent of the 65+ vote in 2012, and only 36.5 percent of the voters under the age of 30. This is why Democrats and Progressive Independents, alike, desperately encourage increased immigration, legal and sometimes illegal. Newcomers, by and large, are younger and far more Liberal in their worldviews concerning social & civil matters, even if they are fiscally Conservative. Older voters have a wonderful opportunity to set this country back on proper course and firmer ground in a plethora of areas including common dynamics in the American work place. New Federal legislation could restore the balance between employees and their unions, and its called the Employee Rights Act. With 27 co-sponsors in the Senate and 89 co-sponsors in the House, working people from Pittsburgh to Pasadena could soon see their individual rights restored. Only 6.7 percent of private sector employees are unionized, a decline from 35 percent in the labor union heyday of the 1950s. Unions are now becoming desperate, and thus more dangerous to the rights of the very employees they are supposed to represent. One favored tactic, the so-called Card Check campaign, allows organizers to publicly confront employees and use peer pressure and intimidation to secure the necessary votes to unionize a workplace and begin collecting dues. After all, $24 billion a year in dues may not be enough for union bosses to maintain their positions as the biggest bullies in the workplace. Secret ballot votes allow employees to make honest decisions for themselves without the pressure of union reps looking over their shoulders. A recent national poll by Opinion Research Corp. found that 85 percent of union households supported the secret ballot provision in ERA. But the ERA would go beyond the ballot box in the protections it promises employees!!! One provision would require unions to gain affirmative consent before spending members dues on political causes. This change is long overdue, thanks to the massive disconnect between labor bosses and union members on political matters, with unions typically giving 90 percent of their political contributions to Democrats, even though 40 percent of union members vote Republican. Nothing in the ERA will forbid the 60 percent of union members who are Democrats from funding causes they agree with; yet instead, employees who dont agree wont have to subsidize politicians they dont support!!! Americans agree that the current system is unfair. National polling shows that political paycheck protection as established by the ERA receives 85 percent support, including 83 percent support from union households. Additionally, there is no provision in current labor law that allows employees to periodically assess their unions performance. An analysis of data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the National Labor Relations Board shows that less than 10 percent of unionized employees ever voted to have their workplaces organized. If enacted into law, the ERA would allow employees to affirm or reject their union on a regular basis, based on its performance in meeting their needs, once a majority of the original voters have been replaced. This provision also polls above 80 percent, and is supported by three-quarters of all union households. Older voters, in particular, understand the dire importance of these protections, not so much for themselves, but for their children who are quickly approaching retirement and their grandchildren who are just entering the workforce and attempting to launch careers.
