The main thing you need to do is WHATEVER YOU CAN TO MAKE IT APPEAR THAT SOMEONE IS HOME. 1. Be certain all of your doors and windows are locked. 2. Leave a couple of lights or TV/radio on. Timers for your lamps are relatively cheap and are an effective deterrent. 3. Have a trusted neighbor retrieve your mail, newspapers and garbage can on a daily basis. 4. Be careful what you post on Social Media. Wait until your return to post photographs of or talk about your trip. Criminals also monitor these sites for information. 5. Avoid having displays of holiday gifts visible through the windows. 6. Guys going on hunting trips: If you are leaving for an early morning hunt, do NOT store your guns and equipment in your vehicle the night before. Thieves look for this also. 7. Remember to ask a TRUSTED neighbor to watch your home and to call 911 if they see anything suspicious. Just a few simple common sense precautions during this holiday season can prevent you from becoming a victim.
