Hollywood is a very political place. And the reason is because Hollywood is literally the most powerful city in the world. More than Washington D.C. Think about it Hollywood determines everything you see on TV an in the media. Of course you have many independents that produce media but none as powerful as Hollywood. Hollywood made it possible for Barack Obama to be president. Tyler Perry is a powerhouse independent producer but without the distribution of Lions Gate in Hollywood he would only have a fraction of his reach. There is truly no such thing as an independent. When you see a guy like Kevin Hart getting the green light to work as much as he currently is that is not because he is the funniest comedian in the world. He has the political machine behind him. There has not been a black comedian with as much push behind them like Kevin Hart since Eddie Murphy. The difference between playing the politics of Hollywood and being independent is the difference between being a rapper like Gucci Mane and a rapper like Jay-Z. Im tired of being independent. Its very difficult to maintain 10 titles and in 2014 I am slated to put out more than I ever did but a lot stands in my way that the consumer does not understand. I often think about Rudy Ray Moore and his accomplishments and think how that man should have inherited all the riches that any super producer should have looking at his resume during his era was unmatched. But unfortunately when he passed away it didnt even make the news. Why? Because he was independent with no succession plan. I think about that type of shit daily.
