Holy God- Thank You for the peace and quiet when it comes. Thank You for the beauty and diversity of this earth. You are the Maker, the Creator and the Justice. As I walked up the steps to the balcony for this house I noticed there was overspray everywhere. This home for women had hired someone to paint the stairs and balcony and shore it up. But I saw paint on the concrete at the base; paint sprayed on the walls of the home and overspray everywhere. Most notable, however, was that it was the wrong color and didn’t match what was there before. I can be very picky about stuff like this. I can be a little snobby in my judgment. My years of experience in that industry had helped me to see defects and quality issues. As we gathered in the board room, others were coming in and talking about how beautiful the balcony looks now. They were exclaiming what a fine job had been done and how much better things look. I still remember the first day in recovery that I realized that the biggest miracle I ever saw was a change in my perception! Here I was seeing something tacky and sloppy while others saw improvement and an acceptable solution. Sometimes I can focus on the gory details instead of seeing the big picture and the results. Thank God that I am not being judged on my every little mistake. Sometimes I act as though I am but God is more merciful than I imagine Him to be. Perhaps I could show just a smidgeon of the mercy to others that He has shown me. Remind me, Lord, to remove the log in my eye before I point out the splinter in someone else’s. Help me to see the good, the beauty and the love that surrounds me. I pray that I may also be a carrier of that good, that beauty and that love. Amen!
