Holy Saturday. What do we do with this day? For many, its a rush to the mall for last minute accessories to the perfect Easter outfit, a dash to the grocery store for an ingredient they forgot for tomorrows meal, an Easter Egg hunt on the lawn for the kids, a day of house cleaning for guests. For those thousands, millions, of catechumens around the world about to be received into the Church, its a time of great excitement as they prepare for the Easter Vigil, which begins at sunset tonight, where theyll hear the salvation story, become immersed in the waters of baptism, and receive Holy Communion for the first time. For some, its just an ordinary Saturday. Sleeping late. Mowing grass. Doing laundry. For others, after the solemnity of Good Friday, it can be a confusing, empty space between the death and resurrection of our Lord, and we wonder, what do we DO with this day? I think - we rest. We rest in this divine space, this holy day. We rest between loss - and hope. We rest between death - and life. We rest between hate - and love. And tomorrow, we hear, we see, we feel, we KNOW - that love triumphs. Love wins.
