Home Reading Program The School has made the decision to discontinue the Home Reading Program incentives from McDonalds. This decision has been made as it has proven difficult to constantly obtain adequate supplies of vouchers. The program needs enough vouchers to hand out to the students at the various intervals and often the school was unable to obtain them from McDonald’s. Also, at Walters Road we place a strong emphasis on promoting healthy food choices and options and we do not feel that the link with fast food fosters or promotes this PDHPE value really, we should not be linking food rewards to reading. To replace these McDonald’s vouchers, the school will still be acknowledging the students’ participation in the Home Reading Program with certificates for reading every 25 books. These will be presented and celebrated in class. We appreciate your understanding and support with this matter and still look forward to an ongoing successful Home Reading Program.
