#Home #Tip of the #week: #Spring #Cleaning Already? Spring is back and it’s time to get rid of a winter’s worth of dirt. Focus on the end result instead of the huge amount of work to be done. Spring cleaning is pretty much like bringing the new season into your home. Remember this is a once-in-a-year activity, so roll up your sleeves and get ready for work that will last you a year. A lot has been undone during the winter so let us start with the basics. Where to start Start anywhere. Wherever you want to start with doesn’t really matter, how you clean up the place is the most important. Personally I would start with the windows or the kitchen. Others would prefer the starting with the more packed places like the closet. Tips to get you started Vacuuming: Before you start vacuuming, make sure you cover any the delicate items in the room. Move the furniture and other big objects on one side so that you can create room and clean comfortably. Putting on some music and dancing while vacuuming is not a bad idea. Continue creating space as you move to other rooms in the house to do the vacuuming. After you are done, return the furniture back its original place. Some people take this chance to re-arrange the house all together. Wash the walls: Walls don’t necessarily scream dirt when you look at them, but you will be surprised at the amount of dirt and dust you can find on them. Walls are evenly coated with dirt, that is why it is hard to notice a dirty wall. Use a sponge and dishwashing detergent. A sponge mop makes it easier to reach higher spots. Gently scrub the walls evenly as you move from one end to another. Don’t forget to clean the ceiling and light fixtures. Remove dust and dirt from ceiling fans and air-conditioner vents using a cloth or even a vacuum cleaner with a soft nozzle attachment. Floors: An occasional makeover of the floors will make it look brand new. Wax or apply a sealer following label directions. One of the simplest methods of doing this is by using a combination of wash-and-wax floor cleaner. Be sure to have shoes that have good grip if the wet surface is slippery. Carpets and other fabrics: Cleaning of fabrics is inclusive of every fabric that is in your house, like curtains, doormats, etc. You will need a deep cleaning to get them ready for another year of use. Make sure the treatment doesn’t discolor the fabrics or cause dyes to run. Give them tough and thorough cleaning. Caring for Your Tiles - Bathroom and kitchen tiles should be cleaned with a cleaner that has “neutral pH” on the label. Mix baking soda and water for a homemade cleaner: Pour 1/2 cup baking soda into 2 gallons water and mix very well. Then apply the liquid with a string mop or sponge mop. This will leave the tiles looking bright and clean. Closet Cleaning: Spring is a great time to try out last summer’s cloths and the rule is if it doesn’t fit donate it! If you haven’t worn a garment in 2 yrs. then it’s also time to let it go. Keep what you need or fit in and remove what is not going to be worn. If you gained or lost weight it’s time to go shopping. Remove cluttered items that are not need. Organize with containers little things like accessories so they are all together to save space. Remember keep it simple.
