Home again after tonights misadventures. Warm comfort of chicken - TopicsExpress

Home again after tonights misadventures. Warm comfort of chicken soup brews and pain meds downed in anticipation of the soreness thats been creeping in since the adrenalines died down. The truck that hit me was pretty tall, its grille struck mid chest and sent me sprawling a couple of feet. Overall, not a lot of fear in the moment, just irritation about the inconvenience of possible permanent injuries or death. I had just picked up my weekly batch of comics and debated about getting a beer or four to decompress. Sadly, I am paranoid about unseen injuries that I wont be getting that beer for fear that I am mistaking drunky-dizziness for traumatic head injury dizziness. It shouldnt be a problem, though, since I had enough flying airtime to land on my hands instead of my head. The intersection of 50th and university is busy and I didnt want to get hit by another car. I took it as a relatively good sign that I was able to scramble off the street quickly and back to the farmers market parking lot. Despite not able to catch my breath, at first, the fact that it wasnt really painful, ragged, or labored was good. There was a bystander who stayed throughout, engaging me in conversation making sure I was coherent. Her mistake :)... As noted earlier, engaging me in small talk is likely to be a much bigger more convoluted conversation than one would expect. The fella driving the car was an older guy, looked like your stereotypical all-american, slightly dorky dad. He was a bit rambling and was a lot more scared than I was. I thanked him for stopping immediately and for calling 911. Numbers exchanged while we waited. Actually, had to take the phone from him to talk with 911. He was so freaked out he left his truck blocking traffic and I had to direct him to move it. Its weird. Because he looks like a white upper-middle class guy, it seemed that all three of us were quick to point out to the authorities I was the victim since they first went to check on him. It could be a race thing or it could be that I was alert and interactive and he was the one a bit queasy looking and shell shocked. I felt mostly fine but as I shared my take on what happened with the firefighters, the police, and the EMTs, my hand started to swell so I decided to go to the hospital. The guy that hit me offered to drive me but the various authorities thought it best to have the ambulance take me While on the ride over, the emt and I talked about his academic options if he wanted to transition out of his current work and into IT. Overall, In the next 3 hours had to explain what happened to two cops, three firefighters, one emt, two nurses, a couple of orderlies that were debating if I was Hawaiian or Filipino, and three doctors. I just wanted dinner at that point Eventually got some xrays of my back and hands... No fractures or misalignments. Just colorful bruises and a knuckle that would look great on the stay-puft marshmallow man. I think Ill take tomorrow off. I was looking forward to a weekend of self-indulgent comfort foods. Looks like Im starting a couple of days early
