Homeopathically: A complimentary to Benzoic acid. What an absolutely elegant flower. These native mountain laurel shrubs grow in the mountains of North Carolina. Considered an evergreen, they grow in partial shade under spruce, fir, buckeye, birch, cherry and tall pine trees and grow best in moist, well drained soil, but tolerate dry soil. Grown to a height of 10 to 15 feet covered in 4 to 5 inch clusters of white to pink flowers in late spring, they draw in sight-seers. Remember the foliage is poisonous to livestock and if you grow them in your garden to avoid high fertilization. Mountain Laurel are self pollinating or via insects like bumblebees. Seeds are contained in small fruit-like capsules each containing 300 to 700 seeds. Individual mountain-laurel shrubs can produce 1000s of seeds annually. The seeds remain viable for years in the ground and when dispersed can be carried far in the wind.
