HonestReporting Mission Day 3: Great session with Col. Benzi Gruber on Ethics in the IDF which shows the lengths the IDF goes to, more than any other army in the world, to avoid civilian casualties; then off we went to Sderot with the fabulous tour guide Patrick Amar to hear what happens when there is only 15 seconds separating you from a missile attack. After a light lunch we were off to the Erez crossing to Gaza to discover the vast amounts of goods that go into Gaza every day; to see the bounty in the markets and hear about the luxury goods such as jacuzzis, mercedes, and many other luxury products that are importing through Israel. Then off to one of my favorite places - Oras Yard. Ora is a Yemenite who in the early 50s walked through the desert of Yemen with her family (some of whom died on route) to come to Israel, where she met Reuven, a Polish Holocaust survivor. Together they have raised a beautiful family of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They have a very special organic orchard of over 120 rare fruit trees from all over the world, from which they make liquer and jams. After a tour of the orchards, the group ate a traditional Yemenite meal cooked by Ora. Great day!
